The Bernoulli Principle

There is a trade-off between air speed and air pressure

Higher air speed = lower air pressure
Lower air speed = higher air pressure
We can measure both with manometers --- columns of water in the shape of a U
 

The "impact pressure" in the Pitot tube (measuring air speed) is exactly matched by a reduction in pressure measured by the "vacuum"-measuring tube
