Return to Return to Aircraft on Display Douglas A-26C "Invader"

- Armament Highly variable: A-26C had two forward firing .50 mg in two turrets, of two guns each. It also carried bombs internally and under wing.

The A-26 was the follow up ac to the A-20 "Havoc" and first flew July 10, 1942. Production delivery began in Aug. 1943. On Nov. 19, 1944 it entered combat in Europe. It was used for low level bombing, strafing & rocket attacks.
When production halted after VJ day 2502 "Invaders" had been built. Re-designated as B-26 in 1948 and used in Korea as a night intruder to harass supply lines.
Entering action for the third time it went to Viet Nam. The USAF ordered 40 more powerful B-26Bs with increased structural strength and they became B-26Ks used for special warfare missions and in 1966 these were again re-designated as A-26A.
The Museum's A-26C was purchased by the city of Pueblo, May 1972.
