Return to Aircraft on Display Index

Specifications:

The A-4D Skyhawk was a Navy carrier based a/c. It first flew June 22, 1954. Its compact size allowed it to operate from a carrier without folding the wings. It added long range capability with bombs, atom bombs, missiles, rockets guns and other weapons. It refueled by tanker a/c and could itself be converted into a tanker by carrying external wing tanks.

Oct 15, 1955 it set a new F.A.I. world speed record for a 500 km closed course at an average speed of 695.163 mph.

Later production models were equipped with electronic instrumentation for all weather navigation and weapon delivery.

The display aircraft was donated in 1979 by the US Navel Air Systems Command at Washington D.C. and was transfered by truck from Davis Monthan AFB AZ.
