The Douglas cargo and passenger aircraft was designated variously as the DC-3 and a British version called " Dakota" The C-47,"Skytrain". Was affectionately called the "Gooney Bird" by servicemen.It was the work horse of the armed forces for many years. It carried heavy loads to high altitude and was used extensively in the China-Burma-India theater of WWII to fly supplies "over the hump" (TheHimalaya mountains).It was used by paratroopers and figured prominently in the European "D" dayinvasion.The DC-3 was one of the first used as a commercial passenger airliner. This DC-3 was last used by the military as an Arctic research laboratory out of Point Barrow Alaska. It was donated in 1979 by the US naval Air Systems Command at Washington D.C. and was flown to Pueblo from Davis Monthan AFB AZ.
