Used extensively in the Korean conflict it was known as the "MASH" Helicopter made famous by the TV show of that name. It started as an experiment between the USAF and the Army and proved very successful. Lessons learned in Korea were then applied in Viet Nam.
Widely used all over the world by over 40 countries. Still in use in many. Civilian versions were the first commercial helicopters built.
First flew in 1945. The model 47 was produced in Italy, the UK and the USA. In the air ambulance role two stretchers can be carried above the skids out side the cabin.
