This version of a light bomber was first accepted Sept. 1941 and was the first bomber to have all metal control surfaces instead of frame and fabric.
It was a patrol bomber. Its prime purpose was for coastal patrol with future use to use armament of two fixed .50 cal. nose guns & two movable .30 cal. below. An upper turret with a another pair of .50 cal. and plexiglass depressions in the side to provide lateral fire zones for two more guns. It could provide a bomb capacity of over one ton.
The museum's RB-37 aircraft was transported by truck from the Training Research Center at St. Paul, MN and is on loan from the USAF Museum.
