CONSTITUTED AS VIII BOMBER COMMAND 19 JAN 1942
ACTIVATED IN THE US 1 FEB. 1942
REDESIGNATED EIGHTH AIR FORCE 22 FEB 1944

The Command conducted the US Strategic Air Forces in Europe from 17 Aug. 42 to early 1944 and the US 8th Air Force continued the Air Offensive Europe until 7 June 1946
